Getting Followers on Google Blogger

Blogger is a blog-publishing tool owned by Google.
Blogger is a blog-publishing tool owned by Google.
A Google Blogger blog allows anyone to self-publish to a worldwide audience. Publishers become successful by creating a loyal following. Getting followers starts with writing informative and entertaining content. However, you also need to use technology to build a list of followers. You have unlimited potential of obtaining new followers when incorporating the right technological tools into your Blogger blog.

Google Friend Connect

Google Friend Connect allows visitors to follow your Blogger blog with a Google account or various other options. Visitors to your site follow you by clicking the "Join This Site" button. At the time of publication, Blogger blogs have Google Friend Connect installed by default. If using an older version, you can still join at the Friend Connect site and manually copy and paste a code to your blog. You manage your account by logging in at the Google Friend Connect website. You can also add polls, a comments section and other community features.

Viral Effects of Friend Connect

When a follower joins your blog, he will see an option to invite people in his online network of contacts. For example, if he subscribes with a Google account, he can invite all the contacts in his Gmail email account. Encourage your followers to invite their friends. This viral marketing effect can add more followers to your blog through many levels of friends inviting other friends.

Joining Other Blogs

You can get more followers for your own blog by finding related blogs that use Google Friend Connect. When you join a blog through Friend Connect, you can email other members when logging in at that blog. Log in at each site and click on each member's link to send an introduction. Mention your blog in the introduction.

Swapping Recommendations

To get more followers, have bloggers using Friend Connect post a blog entry recommending that their readers follow your blog. In return, you post a recommendation on your blog. Bloggers often extend this method to social networking as well. Ask bloggers using sites such as Twitter and Facebook to swap recommendations through their social networking accounts.

Other Options

Another way to gain followers to your Blogger site is to create a subscriber-based email newsletter. You may create a newsletter and subscription form in your Google Friend Connect account. However, other services also allow you to create a newsletter and send an email each time you make a new blog post. Examples include AWeber Communications and FeedBurner. Those services have a code you place on your Blogger blog to get your visitors to subscribe. A similar option is to incorporate social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter. For example, you could place a Facebook "Like" or Twitter "Tweet" button on your Blogger site. Those services provide the button codes to program into your blog.

Placing Codes With Blogger

When using a third-party service to get followers, you must place a code provided by the service on your blog. Log in at Blogger and click on the down arrow next to "View Blog." Select the "Layout" section. Click on "Add a New Gadget." In the selection box, select "HTML/Javascript." Enter and save the code you get from the third-party service in the box. Your new follower tool will then appear on every page of your Blogger blog.
